Speed van

I would like to get your thoughts on Northwoods speed van...

I think the speed van is nothing but an accident waiting to happen. Everytime I drive past it, I am distracted and worried about my speed. I understand it helps slow people down and makes the city a little extra money; but how much would it benefit the city if a life was lost or someone seriously hurt. It seems like the city is just out to steal money from us citizens in any way they can!

I don't understand how the speed van is an accident waiting to happen. If you aren't speeding there is no reason to be distracted by it. If you're speeding, well, that could be a different story. The other thing is, wouldn't a police officer sitting on the side of the road have the same effecton someone concerned about the speed???

My only issue is when they sit in the school zones. I think it's a great thing to be sitting there to keep the kids safer, but my issue is that they will continue to sit there with the 20 MPH sign on it when the flashing school zone lights no longer flash. If the lights aren't flashing, then you must obey whatever the speed limt posted is. Once the lights start to flash then the speed limit reverts to 20 MPH. I have seen them sitting with the 20 MPH sign out after the school zone has ended quite a few times.
